How dominant, and for how long

Each trio's share of its sport's top prize, plotted against how many years all three were in their prime at once. Only one trio is both far up and far right.

Federer, Nadal, Djokovic (strict 2007 to 2019 window, and loose 2004 to 2023) The ten challengers Estimate: no single prize to count
Dominance versus duration for eleven sporting trios Scatter plot. Federer, Nadal and Djokovic sit alone in the top right, at 13 years and 85 percent on the strict window and 20 years and 82 percent on the loose one. Every other trio is either shorter than 10 years or below 60 percent.

Share is the trio's combined share of the sport's top individual prize inside its prime window: grand slams (tennis), the undisputed title (boxing), drivers' titles (F1), majors (golf), global 100m and 200m titles (sprinting), and league MVP for the team sports. The two cricket trios have no prize to monopolise; they are placed by an estimate of how often one of the three held the No. 1 ICC ranking, and are marked hollow.
